What Happens When an Employee Leaves?

Offboarding is one of the most overlooked parts of a small business security program. Without a clear checklist, it's easy for a departing employee's accounts, devices, or shared logins to stay active long after their last day.

A basic offboarding process should cover disabling accounts, revoking access to shared files and applications, retrieving company devices, and updating any shared passwords the employee may have known.

This doesn't need to be complicated — a short written checklist that gets followed consistently is usually enough to close most of this risk.
